PART A: QUESTION 3. Click Motivation (8 marks)

a) Provide a different headline you recently clicked on.

“15 Winter Olympics Photos That Are So Scary, They Made Me Physically Recoil”

b) Include the exact headline and a screenshot

c) Explain why you clicked it, not why you liked it

For starters, the sub-headline was funny to me so it made me intrigued. I also noticed that this headline also mentions “scary” where as the last headline I chose mentioned “terrifying” in it. Maybe I’m drawn to fear?

Personal preference aside, this headline understood the audience and led with a great headline and image to match the headline. The photo is paired perfectly as it shows ice skaters experience a moment of fear while completing a dangerous task. Buzzfeed also uses this feature called “Trending” on post with high traffic. Seeing that little trending symbol further backed up my decision to open this article.

d) Tie your reasoning directly to course concepts

Buzzfeed writers are aware that clicks = money. So the majority of headlines on buzzfeed are very concise, simple and aren’t misleading. Again, like mentioned in the first headline I chose, this headline also utilizes the number at the beginning of the headline. It also is fully pushing the F-pattern structure. What I mean by that is showing the most important information first. “Winter Olympics” then ending with personal opinion. This is a great headline, its no wonder this article is trending.
