Planning your first photoshoot? Try these top 4 tricks
When I was first starting out as a photographer I had no idea what I was doing, or trying to do. All I knew was I wanted to take photos! Thinking back to then I put together a list of things I was I was told when I was just beginning
1. Don't be afaid to coach the session
The majority of times when you are hired to do a photoshoot your client is probably not going to be a model that knows how to pose in front of a camera. But thats okay! In fact, thats one of the reasons why your services matter! Don't be afraid to tell people what way to pose or directions to look or actions to take. Keep this in mind, your client is usually more nervous than the photographer, they usually want your guidance. So own it.
2. Ask your client if they have a vision
More times than not, the person who is hiring you for photos probably will want their photoshoot to look a certain way or fit a certain kind of "vibe". This is totally normal we should be aware of the vision first and foremost. Happy client, happy day.
3. Have backup poses
To kind of touch on tip #1, whenever I get a vision board sent to me of the clients vision or a pinterest link for inspiration, I take LOADS of screenshots on my phone. These come in handy when your out of ideas for your shoot. You can just grab out your phone and keep the session going and look like you always are on top of things.
4. Have music and bring good vibes!
Music helps people relax and can get them into a more focused headspace. We want to always avoid our clients looking visibly nervous or feeling embaressed. Ways to help with this are asking them if they have any songs they want to hear. Giving lots of compliments like "wow, that's killer", "You sure this is your first time having a photoshoot?". Little nods help people come out of their comfort zones.
Now, go out there and don't forget that you got this and can handle whatever comes your way!
