1. We spoke about Plain English writing in class. Please answer the following in detail:
a. How would you explain to someone what “Plain English writing” is? (4 Marks)
When thinking about how to properly explain what “Plain English writing” is to those that aren’t aware of it, I must ensure that the explanation itself isn’t complicated. You’ll understand why in a moment. Plain English writing can be defined as a type of writing that is both clear and concise, as well as catered towards specific audiences. This writing is very effective for communicating because the entire purpose is to get rid of all information that is unclear or unimportant. Plain English can be found everywhere, and now that you’re aware of what it is, it will somewhat be impossible to ignore. The most basic example I can give for “Plain English writing” would be a sign within a service Canada that says “line up here”. This sign is not dumbing down any information it is just telling people exactly what they want to know when they arrive.
