a) Provide the exact headline
“13 Bizarre Mariana Trench Animals That Capture The Terrifying Extremes Of Evolution”
b) Explain why it resonated with you
After reviewing multiple posts on a website called “IFL science” this headline really stuck out to me. IFL Science is the buzzfeed of scientific finds, the content isn’t always the most scientifically accurate, but it does give a good read. Is anything factually correct anymore anyways?
Anyways, the reason this headline resonated with me was for a number of reasons. It sparked curiosity for me. A good headline I feel should make me want to click on something that I had no intention of ever knowing. This headline also tells me exactly what I am going to get by opening it. A list of bizarre looking fish. Now, why that makes me interested, i couldn’t tell ya. But I can tell you the headline did a great job of getting me interested to click on this article.
c) Tie your explanation directly to specific headline elements discussed in class
This headline also utilizes the “eye candy” metaphor. Utilizing uneven numbers to draw in viewers. Using uneven numbers makes the headline seem more legit. It makes the number feel like it wasn’t just made up because it is an uncommon number to list items. As mentioned above this article also told me exactly what I was going to be viewing. Even if I didn’t read that article I know what it is. Lastly, this headline is simple. I don’t have to think about what IFL science is trying to say.
